With 40 years of experience under our belt, we’ve researched and prepared over 65 State and National Register nomination forms. We quite literally wrote the book on this work when we authored, “A Guide For Nominating Residences to the Hawaii Register of Historic Places” in 2008. Our services also include presenting nominations to the Historic Places Review Board; fielding questions from board members about the property; and, if needed, assisting our clients with filing tax exemption paperwork. Our completed nominations include Mid-Century-Modern compounds by Vladimir Ossipoff, Classic Hawaiian residences by C.W. Dickey, historic commercial buildings, districts and drives, and many others.
Listing historic properties on the Hawaii Register achieves the goals of both property owners and the Hawaii State Historic Preservation District (SHPD). For the owner, listing provides formal recognition of the property’s historic importance, which can lead to generous property tax exemptions. Listing properties also directly supports SHPD’s mandate to identify and nominate eligible properties to the National Register which, in turn, recognizes and supports the preservation of valuable historic resources in our islands.
