Congratulations to Melanie Islam, Pacific Business News’ (PBN) 20th Annual 40 Under 40 Honoree!

PBN recognized 40 of Hawai’i's extraordinary young business leaders under the age of 40 at the Sheraton Waikiki on Friday June 7, 2019.  Honoring outstanding young business professionals who:

  • Demonstrate business excellence at his/her business/organization
  • Contribute to the overall success of his/her company/organization
  • Stands out amongst peers and colleagues
  • Strong current and past community involvement

Melanie has over a decade of experience in the fields of architectural design, master planning, sustainable design and project management.  As an Associate and Sustainability Director at MASON, she likes to focus on projects that stress energy efficiency and sustainable design.  Her work on the Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company’s (HDCC) Headquarters received LEED Gold Certification and was recognized with a 2018 Reconstruction Bronze Award by Building Design + Construction and a 2017 Honorable Mention for Historic Preservation by AIA Honolulu! 

Most recently, Melanie successfully initiated and co-led the rebranding of Mason Architects to MASON, an 18-month process in shaping the firm’s brand identity.  Her commitment to excellence and resolve to better the local community has separated her from her peers and colleagues since entering the industry, and continues to inspire her work today.

Melanie is actively involved in the local community, serving as a member and board member of several organizations such as American Institute of Architects (AIA) Honolulu; U.S. Green Building Council Hawaii; International Living Future Institute Ambassador Network; and NAIOP Hawaii.
