Kaumakapili Church Project Received Two Roofing Awards

MASON’s most recent work on the Kaumakapili Church was the installation of new roofing,

which was awarded “Top Roof of the Year for Steep Slope” and “Roofing Project of the Year” by the Roofing Contractors Association of Hawaii earlier this year.

Kaumakapili Church was founded in 1838 to serve the makaainana. The first Kaumakapili Church was dedicated on August 29, 1839 in the Chinatown area. The current Gothic-Revival church was constructed in 1911 and is the most prominent feature of the Kalihi-Palama neighborhood.

MASON’s work on the Church also includes conducting a study to assess the historic church’s condition in 1993, documenting the significant damages discovered. Then in 2002, MASON renovated and restored the historic church.

There are many challenges associated with working on historic buildings, MASON is always up for the task, we enjoy finding solutions to these challenges to preserve, adapt and maintain these buildings for generations to come.
