Hawai’i Green Business Awards

On June 29, 2023, Governor Josh Green, M.D. presented MASON with an accommodation of environmental stewardship for meeting Hawaii’s Green Business (HGB) Event Standards while participating in AIA Honolulu’s annual Firm Crawl Tour.

HGB recognizes businesses that have gone above and beyond environmental compliance during an event to reduce, reuse, recycle, and educate employees and customers about the importance of adhering to “green practices,” specifically water and energy conservation, low carbon footprint transportation, and prevention of future pollution.

MASON’s participation met HGB event standards by using compostable tableware, post-consumer recycled napkins, reuse of signage, and daylighting for energy efficiency.  Reduction in waste was achieved through large beverage dispensers, a buffet style dinner, reusable serving dishes and utensils.  An electronic proximity map encouraged walking and biking to the venue.  Promotion of the HGBP website was displayed to encourage visitors to transform their own into a Green Event.

MASON commits daily to green business practices by using “Green Sealed” certified copy paper, motion sensor lights and faucets, low flow plumbing fixtures, and sorted recycle bins.  On a larger scale, the firm is an Architecture 2030 Commitment firm, and we want to lead by example to show how simple it can be to host a sustainable event, even for small local businesses.
